Hope this message finds you doing well. Last September (Labor Day weekend to be exact), you fitted me for a set of Miura CB 57 irons and re shafted and changed the lie on my wedges. I was referred to you from Harry Howell (Bosten Millers cousin), both from West Virginia, as am I.
After I received my irons last year, I was able to get in a few rounds (maybe 5-6) before the weather turned for the year in November. As expected, it took me a few rounds to get used to the new irons and while I was hitting some solid shots, I still weren’t hitting them as well as I hoped. I did notice a difference with my wedges (much more accurate, no more pulls), that you re-shafted and changed the lies on. I went into the offseason excited about my last few rounds of the year but really looking forward to next season (which is here) where I could play on a more regular basis, and in some better weather.
The winter up here was terrible. I usually try to get out some in Nov and Dec, but it never worked out. All winter, I chipped and putted in my basement, and would take out my irons and swing them when we had a decent day. As the spring got near, I started to get really excited about the new season.
April was a busy month since we had a few trips planned and I didn’t have a chance to get out until last weekend. I played 9 holes one evening and then in a scramble the next day. During the scramble, I hit some really nice iron shots, the type that I dreamed of when I got the irons last year. Definitely got me excited for this weekend for a few rounds on my home course.
I’ve always heard players talking about there game “clicking” and wondered if it would ever happen to me. In the past, I would have a good round one day and the next, it felt totally different. I always chalked it up to that being golf but I felt like something was missing.
Well the last two rounds I played (Friday and today), my game came together like never before. I shot back to back sub 80 rounds (77-76), something that I haven’t done in many years, at least not that I remember. Friday’s round I had 2 birdies and burned the edges on a few more. Today I had 4 birdies on the back 9 of my round (3 in a row at one point), with several other chances that I barely missed. 4 of the birdies over the two days, came with an iron in my hand. I’m hitting shots at flags like never before, I mean shots that fly right at the flag, just beautiful. I’ve only had three birdies in a row one other time in my life, which again was several years ago. I have never had 4 birdies in a round at my home course.
Needless to say, I’m ecstatic about the state of my game and I owe it mainly to my iron play. I’ll still hit an occasional loose shot that costs me, but I know I’m not going to hit them all well. Just something I need to work on.
I just wanted to say thank you for all your help. With your guidance and recommendations, I know I’m on my way to becoming a more consistent player, one that I always felt like I could be. I now realize the importance of custom fit clubs. Next time I’m down, I’ll stop by. I want to work on a driver!
